Most of us wake up in the morning with a list of all the things we need to accomplish before the day is through. The mind is racing as thoughts begin to overwhelm and steal our present moment. We race from task to task as the days fly by. Take a moment, right now, to realize that this moment is the only true reality, a gift.
Yoga Sutra III.1
Gathering consciousness and focusing within is Dharana.
One of the eight limbs of Yoga is Dharana, or focus and contemplation. Take a few minutes to practice Dharana.
Sit for a moment.
Close your eyes.
Begin to focus on your breath (pranayama)
Calm the mind by allowing any thoughts to flow by.
Yoga Sutra II.49
The universal life force (prana) is enhanced and guided through the harmonious rhythm of the breath (pranayama).
By focusing on your breathing, you are focusing on your energy. Reclaiming the calm and smoothness of your breath, the internal peace.
Throughout the day, give yourself time to recognize your life force within. As the world rushes around you, bring your thoughts inward and slow the mind by concentration on your breath. You will find your serenity. Carry the positive, calm energy with you throughout the day: Radiate your prana!
